I made my first "cream of mushroom" soup tonight and it came out great! For those who don't know, or forgot, I cant eat things with wheat in it, so that including most all canned soups I had to figure out how to make my own.
My stick blender came in very handy.

Just FYI for those who don't know where else to go when this stuff goes down.. The host that powers FA lost a line that connects all of their hosted sites to the interwebs. This being day 2, they are ignoring requests for updates, and owners of FA seem to be looking for a new host for their servers.

So yeah. No idea when it will be back up, but that's the official skinny on the situation.

I'm excited.. I was given a white kitchen aid stand mixer for an early christmas present. I have NO idea what to do with it first either! SO MANY CHOICES..

Roomies mom and her husband bought me it since they love when I make them cookies for the holidays (as I do with my own family) and she didn't know I was just using a shortening cutter [link] ..to do every batch of cookies I've ever made that had a consistency stronger than brownie batter.

So wow. Neat!

Overheard at the dinner table at roomies moms house thanksgiving.

"My work is charging people an additional $50 out of their paychecks if they smoke in order to keep their insurance coverage"
"it's that socialist crap"

To avoid a political discussion from turning into an argument, I brought up how my friend quit and how he replaced the physical habit with gum chewing.

Seriously though.. Why are well off dummies crying that private insurance companies trying to make a mint off of smokers, is an Obama "socialist" thing? Obama is trying to do a public option to compete with private options.. Remember? All the old people in town halls screaming death panels!! over the public option in the works? (when apparently being rejected for coverage if you have a pre-existing condition somehow isn't a death panel, and insurance companies decide all the time if they are or are not going to cover something if it's too expensive..)

For years now I've been getting asked all the time if I smoke by dentist and doctor. It was the next "natural" progression insurance companies would take. Doctors didn't use to ask so much.

Even if you're not for Obama, there's no rational jump here. He's making something private companies will have to DIRECTLY COMPETE with, or lose their customers to the public option. Guess what? That means prices come DOWN. Competition is good.

Anyway.. had to rant a bit. XD
