Malwarebytes false positives

Journal Entry: Sat Mar 21, 2009, 1:57 PM
Anyone else finding that if they manually shut off any aspect in the security center that Malwarebytes is now reporting them as false positives? (it didn't do that before.)
I thought it might have been a real infection so I let it clear the "threats" and scanned again with everything being clear. I set my security system back up the way I prefer it, and it reported them once again.

I set the "threats" on ignore now, but I was wondering if anyone else was getting the same things.

I haven't experienced anything of the sort, but thanks for the heads up I'll be sure to keep an eye out for them though.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Grab a copy of AVG Antivirus and scan it with that. I heard the word Malwarebytes from another friend, who suggested it and I say "No, get AVG."

Malware took care of what AVG left behind last time I used it.

Yet another reason that I run Linux.

Unfortunately, it looks like the clam antivirus for windows no longer updated.

Antivirus is not enough. You should also find an anti-rootkit.

Rootkits are not mal-ware but they do allow a back door to the system. Since rootkits are not malware, AV alone may not always find them.

You should also run a vulnscanner should you want to harden your system. For this, I recommend NESSUS.

Malwarebytes isn't antiviral, but manages to pick up what other antiviral leave behind. A simple false positive is nothing to worry about. I was mostly putting it out there in case others got that since I had previously pimped it after 3 antivirus and two spyware failed to clean my system, but Malwarebytes got the job done.

And for the sake of pete.. don't go "this is why I run minority OS X". Anymore. At least not toward me.
The moment any of those other OS become the majority, naturally you'll see a shift in what viruses will be coded for. Always gets my goat when people do that.. no matter how well meaning.
:iconfoznots:
Sorry it pissed you off. I wasn't trying to force a preference. Next time, I will keep my helpful nature to myself.

As for minority OS, I humbly do not agree. Most of the countries around the globe run Linux exclusively, China, Russia, Germany. The US government and banking run Linux.

The number of people running Linux is impossible to measure as there are no licenses to tally as any one can download a free distro and be off and running.

I am in NO WAY dissing windows and agree that that Linux can be vulnarable to attack as well but if I am attacking something, it is not because it is the majority os. I would attack it because it is a soft target kind of like a burglar going for the house with the door open versus the house with the locks, shudders and guard dog.

I myself run windows in emulation on my Linux desktoop as an app.

Again, sorry if I pissed you off.

nono, not pissed just.. "gah c'monnnnnnnnn, this stuff again?", because people who tend not to use windows do it.
And yeah.. it is a minority household OS still compared to windows.
:iconfoznots:
I will agree with the statement "minority household os".

I am glad you ain't pissed.

I try not to force my prefs on anyone. You use what ever works for you.
